The situation of people affected with cp in nigeria is very discouraging. Limited government support, no designated centres for cp child to undergo all forms of therapy. In fact no adequate awareness of cp condition in nigeria.

Every one in nigeria with cp child has gotten a story to tell. discrimination, hostility is what most parent get from people, families, relations, and neighbours as most people see them as an evil child. They don’t believe is brain injury. It took me one years to know that my son had brain injury. I have taken it upon myself to create awareness in my own little way by telling people who stared at me and my son while going out that he has a brain injury at birth.

I have come across someone who told me a story of how two children from a family was killed because they have cp. I have also come across someone who told me that I should allow him to help me killed my son because his a piece of vegetable, he’s not going to be useful to me and the society at large, while some couples go there separate way because they have cp child and one of them believe that the problem is either from the wife family or the husband family and that lead to there separation.

It is so unfortunate that we don’t have dedicated facilities to support parent and most people are ignorant of what cerebral palsy is.
